Moira Shire residents are invited to take part in the upcoming Dollar Discovery Weekend being held on 23 and 24 July at tourist spots right across the shire.
Over this weekend, residents can enjoy scrumptious local produce, coffee, wine, golf, cactus adventures and more - all from just $1.
Mayor Libro Mustica said he was looking forward to the weekend and encouraged all residents to save the date.
"Tourism operators and retail outlets from Bundalong to Barmah have got on board and are offering attractions, products and experiences from just $1," Cr Mustica said.
"We are committed to helping our communities thrive, both economically and socially, and this weekend is a fantastic chance to explore our own backyard while supporting local businesses.
"It is also a great opportunity to have fun experiences, catch up with family and friends, and get out and about our beautiful part of Sun Country on the Murray.
"Council's Visiting Friends and Relatives campaign is vital to local and regional tourism with statistics showing that more than 30% of our day and overnight visitors come to our shire because they have family and friends living locally, so it is vital we invest in positive promotions and initiatives to grow that number."
John Hall, owner of Cactus Country, is one tourism operator who is a passionate supporter of Moira Shire Council's Discovery Weekend event.
"The Visiting Friends and Relatives market is huge for Cactus Country," John said.
"Every year we get more and more people telling us they're visiting because a local recommended us.
"This year there are so many great deals throughout Moira Shire, I'm looking forward to loading a few mates in the car and exploring the region like a tourist.
"It's such a great way to give back to the community.
"Support a local business this Discovery Weekend and, if you fall in love with a new venue or it reminds you of how much you like a place, you will visit often.
Be sure to share your experience with someone from out of town to entice them to our little piece of paradise!"
