Northern Territory Police are investigating after a domestic violence incident that resulted in an assault on police in a remote community early this morning.
Just after 2:30am, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received a report of an armed male at an address in Wadeye.
Upon arrival and approach of the home, a 26-year-old male offender proceeded to throw rocks at police from nearby bushland.
A male officer was struck to the back of the head with a large rock, while a female officer was struck to the side of the face with small gravel rocks. The officers retreated to the police vehicle before the offender launched an edged weapon that shattered the vehicle's windscreen.
Members were able to locate a female domestic violence victim from the home, after the offender fled the scene.
The 27-year-old female was conveyed to the local clinic for injuries to the head.
Both members received medical care at the local clinic for cuts and abrasions.
Superintendent Paul Faustmann said, "The attack on our members during their line of duty is unacceptable.
"The Northern Territory Police Force condemn this act of violence and is fully committed to apprehending the offender. We are actively investigating this incident and urge anyone with information to come forward and call 131 4444 and assist in our efforts."
