Domestic Violence Investigation In Katherine

Northern Territory Police are investigating a domestic violence incident in Katherine.

Around 9:30pm on 11 July 2024, police received a report that a 36-year-old woman had been assaulted by her former partner at a location on Railway Terrace, Katherine. It is believed the assault took place around 8:50pm.

Emergency Services could not locate the victim at the location at the time, with police locating her the next day at a residence nearby. The victim stated she had been struck in the head.

She was later conveyed to Katherine Hospital for treatment and on the 13 July 2024, was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital for further treatment.

On 16 July 2024, police were informed her condition had deteriorated and that she was in critical condition within the ICU, where she currently remains.

Detectives from the Northern Investigations Section and Major Crime are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the assault.

At this stage no arrests have been made and police have taken multiple witness statements from the night of 11 July, the exact nature of the injuries in relation to the assault are under investigation.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 131 444. Police are particularly interested in CCTV and Dash-cam from Railway Terrace between 8:30 and 9:30pm on 11 July 2024.
