The Permanent Mission of the Dominican Republic to the Organization of American States (OAS) today delivered the third part of the digitalization material from the Dominican Book Collection to the Columbus Library, in a ceremony held at the headquarters of the hemispheric institution in Washington, D.C.
The Permanent Representative of the Dominican Republic, Mayerlyn Cordero, said this new donation "symbolizes our common commitment to resources of political, cultural and historical importance." The material delivered, she added, offers a "unique vision of events and realities of our country throughout the centuries, addressing topics as diverse as indigenous legends, border conflicts and international relations."
For his part, the Secretary of Hemispheric Affairs of the OAS, James Lambert, expressed his gratitude for "the support received from the Dominican Republic, not only in this digitalization effort, but in everything we do in the Library, which is one of the "jewels of the OAS."
This new selection of texts contains a diverse collection of works in several languages including Spanish, French and English, covering fundamental aspects of the history, diplomacy and culture of the Dominican Republic. Among the donated titles are "Memorias de Relaciones Exteriores de la Republica Dominicana, 1937 – 1950"; "Historia de Santo Domingo" (published in 1911); the "Era de Trujillo: 25 años de Historia Dominicana" and Historie de L'Isle Espagnole ou de S. Domingue" (published in 1838).
