The new Sorell Service Centre has officially opened, meaning a full suite of Services Australia and Service Tasmania facilities are available under the same roof for the first time.
Minister for Government Services the Hon. Bill Shorten MP and the Member for Lyons, Brian Mitchell, opened the new centre after working together for several years to make it a reality.
Minister Shorten said the partnership with Service Tasmania was making government services easier to access.
"We said we'd have the new Sorell Service Centre up and running in 2024, and we've done just that," Minister Shorten said.
"We're always looking to connect Australians to more services in the one location, which is why we're partnering with Service Tasmania in our new Sorell Service Centre.
"This is one of over 100 co-location arrangements we have across Australia with key Commonwealth partners and not-for-profit organisations.
"The service centre's contemporary layout and upgraded facilities mean locals will find it even easier to access support, payments and services."
Minister Shorten said the newly built service centre was already benefitting Tasmanians.
"Sorell is one of Tasmania's fastest growing communities, so it's important that there's easy access to a full suite of face-to-face government services," Minister Shorten said.
"The new service centre means Sorell and Tasman Peninsula residents no longer need to go to Rosny to get full in-person support for federal government services.
"Local company The Young Group built the service centre, with construction supporting 27 jobs."
The new Sorell Service Centre at 33 Dubs and Co Drive, Sorell is open Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 4:30pm. It is around 230 metres from public transport connections and has car parking available nearby.
