Emergency services remain at the scene of a fatal two-vehicle crash near Port Macquarie.
Just after 3.30am (Friday 27 August 2021), emergency services were called to the Pacific Highway – about 1km south of the Oxley Highway off-ramp at Thrumster – following reports two trucks had crashed.
Officers from Mid North Coast Police District and Coffs-Mid Coast Traffic & Highway Patrol attended and located both trucks well alight. Several trees and bushes along the highway were also on fire.
Officers from NSW Rural Fire Service extinguished the blaze a short time later.
The drivers of both vehicles died at the scene; they are yet to be formally identified.
All northbound lanes on the Pacific Highway have been closed. A contraflow is in place on the southbound lanes and is expected to be in place for some time.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident has been commenced.
Police will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.
