I have the best job in the world. Being an obstetrician doesn't feel like work and I absolutely love what I do.
For Obstetrician Dr Scott Shemer, the path to Obstetrics was clear. "From my first day as a medical resident doctor on the labour ward, it was evident that this was a career I wanted to pursue for the rest of my life," shared Dr Shemer.
Graduating from Melbourne University in 2008, Dr Shemer dedicated six years to specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. "I love the excitement of obstetrics, coupled with the joy of guiding patients and families through one of the happiest times in their lives. It forms a unique and special bond."
Dr Shemer estimates he has delivered several thousand babies, with many families returning to have their second or third babies with him. "I have the best job in the world. Being an obstetrician doesn't feel like work and I absolutely love what I do."
Dr. Shemer's practice is an inclusive space for all pregnant patients and their families, caring for heterosexual and same-sex couples, solo parents, surrogates, and transgender people. "I have a real passion for my job and it is a privilege to look after all types of families."
From June 2024, Epworth Freemasons welcomes Dr. Shemer into new custom-built consulting rooms, created with the purpose of fostering a warm and inviting environment. Dr Shemer ensures his patients have unlimited access to holistic care, with in-room allied health staff including a perinatal psychologist, physiotherapist and dietitian working alongside him and his midwives.
Dr Shemer is now booking patients for antenatal care, birth and postnatal care, as well as pre-conception counselling, at Epworth Freemasons.
