The DRAFT Leeton Shire Community Strategic Plan – Leeton on the Go 2035 – is now available for review and comment, following endorsement at the December Ordinary Council Meeting.
The Community Strategic Plan (CSP), which is prepared by Council on behalf of the community, is based on community input and sets out:
- Where we are at today
- Where we want to be in 10+ years' time
- How we will get there
- Who may be able to contribute to reaching our goals
- How we will know that we're on track or that we have arrived
General Manager Jackie Kruger said Council carried out an extensive community engagement process which involved feedback from 400 residents via a phone survey, direct contact with 113 organisations and a series of focus group sessions. The community was asked what they like about living in Leeton, what they feel needs to be improved and what their aspirations are for Leeton Shire as well as their ideas about how these aspirations could be achieved.
"The information gathered during the engagement, which took place between May and November, has fed into the development of the DRAFT Leeton on the Go 2035 CSP. Our gratitude goes out to all those community members that responded, participated and provided feedback.
"Now that we have a draft plan, we want to check back with the community to make sure we've got it right and to capture any feedback that was potentially missed," she said.
Although Liveable Leeton 2035 is a community plan, not a Council plan, it is a vital tool for the Council because it sets out the vision, goals, values and priorities of the community.
Council will use the CSP as a blueprint to guide the development of its four-year Delivery Plan which begins in earnest in early 2025.
Ms Kruger said it was important to be aware that while Council will have a big part to play in implementing the CSP, the CSP is a whole-of-community plan and other stakeholders – community groups, State and Federal government agencies, businesses, and even individuals – will also have a role.
"There are some things that are the responsibility of other levels of government or the community themselves, and we've got a much better chance of success if we all do our bit and work together to achieve the community's vision for the future," she said.
"That means it's important for everyone to check to make sure they are comfortable with the direction outlined in the CSP."
