Drilling For Data To Design Stadium Foundations

Orange Council

At the site of the new Sports Precinct, irrigation lines are now in the ground and work is continuing to install drainage pipes for the eight new sports fields.

♦ In short: To complete the engineering specifications needed to build two grandstands, designers nee underground data.

♦ Geo-tech drilling teams are collecting core samples

♦ What's next: Grandstand designs are due to be completed by the end of the year.

Specialist drilling crews are also on-site to discover the data that needed to design foundations for the complex.

By drilling down on the eastern end of the site near Huntley Road, they'll learn crucial information about underground rocks and soil types, the data that's needed to design the foundations of the athletics track grandstand.

On the site of the main stadium, another crew is hard at work.

They'll drill 15 metres down for the information needed to design the foundations of the stadium grandstand.

The nearby cutting shows a dark line, a layer of volcanic soil.

The first look at core samples also shows the pattern of the dark volcanic soil across the site.

The final designs of the main stadium and the athletics track grandstand are expected before the end of the year.
