A man will appear in court today after multiple pursuits through Sydney's south-west overnight.
About 6.20pm (Saturday 8 April 2023), police were notified by members of the public that a Lexus SUV, travelling on the Hume Highway at Lansvale, had allegedly crashed into several vehicles and failed to stop.
A responding Fairfield City Police Area Command crew was stopped at the intersection of Lawson Street and Wilga Street, Fairfield, when the SUV allegedly crashed into the front of the fully-marked police vehicle and continued driving.
While the police vehicle was damaged, no officers were injured.
Two subsequent pursuits were initiated but were terminated shortly after each time due to safety concerns.
About 25 minutes later, the alleged driver – a 54-year-old man – was arrested after the SUV was found on Coleraine Street. Two large hunting knives and ammunition were found during a search of the vehicle.
The man was taken to Fairfield Police Station where he was subjected to a breath analysis, which returned an alleged reading of 0.153.
The Fairfield man was charged with eight offences: police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive recklessly/furiously or speed manner dangerous, drive with high-range PCA, two counts of not give particulars to other driver, holder of a category A or B licence not have approved storage, custody of knife in public place, and destroy or damage property.
He has been refused bail to appear before Parramatta Bail Court today (Sunday 9 April 2023).
