With the return of static/block testing yesterday South Australia Police commenced a major state-wide stop drink and drug operation commencing at 12.01am, Friday 22 May and concluding at 11.59am this day.
The operation and the return of the static/block testing was highly publicised and yet forty one people still decided to either drive under the influence of drugs of alcohol.
Over 4000 alcotests were conducted with 14 people recording positive results. The highest reading was 0.205 from a 30-year-old Kingscote man. Six cars were impounded and nine people lost their licence on the spot.
A total of 266 drug tests were conducted and 27 people recorded positive results, which mean more than ten percent of people tested had drugs in their system.
Assistant Commissioner Ian Parrott is disappointed with the outcome.
"Forty One people made a deliberate, dangerous and selfish decision to get behind the wheel of a car knowing they were under the influence of drugs or alcohol. These people should be grateful they were stopped last night, they could have easily killed themselves or someone else on SA roads.
"Every police car can stop you anywhere, anytime. Police will continue to pay attention to all road users especially those who choose to do the wrong thing by drink and drug driving. There have already been 45 lives lost on SA roads so far this year impacting the families and communities of those lives lost."
