Driver Arrested After Pedestrian Hit In Maddington

Officers from the Major Crash Investigation Section have arrested a man in relation to a crash that occurred on Monday 8 July 2024 in Maddington, resulting in a pedestrian being seriously injured.

It will be alleged about 7.30pm, the man was driving a grey Mazda CX3 station wagon on Albany Highway, when he struck a man who was walking on the road.

The accused stopped his vehicle and walked back to where the victim was laying, before he allegedly returned to his vehicle and drove away without reporting the crash to police or other emergency services.

The 38-year-old male pedestrian was conveyed to hospital with serious injuries.

As a result of their investigation, Major Crash officers arrested the 68-year-old man at his Kenwick home on Thursday, 11 July 2024.

He was charged with two offences and is due to appear before the Armadale Magistrates Court on Wednesday 7 August 2024:-

• Driver Fail to Report an Incident Occasioning Death or Grievous Bodily Harm; and

• Driver Failed to Stop and Ensure Assistance Received after Incident Occasioning Grievous Bodily Harm.
