Driver Charge After Fatal Crash On Mount Ousley

Wollongong police have charged a driver following the death of a rider on Mount Ousley yesterday.

About 4.10pm (Friday 19 July 2024), emergency services responded to reports of a crash between a vehicle and motorcycle on the M1 Motorway, near New Mount Pleasant Road, Mount Pleasant, on Mount Ousley.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District arrived to find a Toyota SUV had hit a motorbike.

The rider, a 31-year-old man, died before the arrival of emergency services.

The driver, a 24-year-old woman, was uninjured and taken to Wollongong Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers established crime scene and launched an investigation into the incident with assistance from specialist police.

Following inquiries, police charged the 24-year-old with negligent driving occasioning death.

She was refused bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court today (Saturday 20 July 2024).

Inquiries are continuing.
