Driver Charged After Fatal Coolac Multi-Vehicle Crash

A man has been charged following a fatal crash in the state's south in January.

About 1.45am on Friday 3 January 2025, emergency services were called to the Hume Highway, near Spring Dam Road, Coolac, 18km north of Gundagai, following reports of a multi-vehicle crash.

Officers attached to The Hume and Riverina Police Districts attended the scene and found that four trucks had collided.

One driver – a 22-year-old man - died at the scene, while three other drivers were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

Following an investigation by the Riverina Crash Investigation Unit, about midday today (Friday 11 April 2025) police arrested a 52-year-old man at Tarcutta.

He was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station where he was charged with five offences – dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous, dangerous driving occasioning death – driver under influence, negligent driving occasioning death and two counts of possess prohibited drug.

The man's driving licence has been suspended.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court on Wednesday 4 June 2025.
