The Northern Territory Police Force has arrested a 35-year-old male and seized a vehicle for high range drink driving and hooning offences in Howard Springs on Thursday last week.
About 3:15pm, the Joint Emergency Services Communications Centre received reports of a single vehicle rollover at the entrance of the Howard Springs Nature Park. Police allege the vehicle was engaged in hooning behaviour on an unsealed area at the time of the crash.
All three occupants of the vehicle self-extracted before emergency services arrived.
The passengers, a 33-year-old female and a 36-year-old male, were conveyed by St John Ambulance to Palmerston Regional Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The 35-year-old male driver was arrested at the scene and returned a breath analysis result of 0.238%. His vehicle was seized under anti-hooning legislation and he was released to Palmerston Regional Hospital for medical assessment.
The male will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date for Drive high range blood alcohol content, Drive vehicle causing loss of traction and Careless driving.
In an unrelated incident on Sunday evening, Darwin Traffic Operations members witnessed a vehicle driving erratically through the intersection at Tiger Brennan Drive and Wishart Road. Police apprehended the vehicle and issued a traffic infringement to the driver for Drive vehicle causing loss of traction and Drive motor vehicle unsafe to drive.. The vehicle was defected and seized under anti-hooning legislation.
Senior Sergeant Xavier McMahon said "It is incredibly fortunate we are not reporting a fatality from the incident on Thursday last week. We are disturbed that people continue to make the wrong choices following the devastating few years we have had with lives lost on our roads.
"The current number of lives lost on Territory roads sits at four compared to 11 this time last year.
"Police will continue to target irresponsible drivers who continue to put other motorists at risk."
