In preparation for the upcoming fire season, Campaspe Shire Council is supporting the community by accepting household green waste free of charge.
For the month of October, Council Resource Recovery Centres will be accepting household garden organic waste at no cost.
Director Sustainability, Michael Sharp said it is an excellent opportunity to clean up around your home in preparation for fire season.
"We strongly encourage residents to take their garden spring clean to one of our Resource Recovery Centres during October. When it comes to fires, prevention is better than cure.
"Reducing potential fire risks can be as simple as clearing long grass or removing dead trees and leaves. This annual program is a perfect reminder for the community that it's time to think 'fire smart' before we head into what's forecast to be a long, hot summer," said Mr Sharp.
Residential volumes (up to three cubic metres) of household green waste will be accepted free of charge at seven of Campaspe's Resource Recovery Centres in Colbinabbin, Echuca, Gunbower, Kyabram (Mt Scobie), Lockington, Rochester, Rushworth.
