In December 2023, Goulburn Mulwaree Council and Wingecarribee Shire Council secured grant funding to prepare a Regional Drought Resilience Plan to assist the regions to better prepare for future drought conditions.

These grants, awarded to consortia of councils, were a joint initiative by the Australian and NSW Governments, funded by Round Two of the Future Drought Fund's Regional Drought Resilience Planning Program.

This program aims to identify actions, pathways and opportunities to improve regional drought resilience, and put regional NSW communities in a stronger position to adapt to change and mitigate the impacts of drought.

Following engagement with community, business and agency stakeholders, the plan was submitted for approval to the CSIRO and received endorsement from the NSW and Australian Government in January 2025.

Under this program, funding is available to regions with finalised plans to kick-start implementation of actions identified in drought resilience plans.

Further consultation with community and industry groups has commenced around the endorsed Plan and the joint councils are aiming to lodge an application for funding of these projects in the coming weeks.

The plan is available for viewing at Regional Drought Resilience Planning - DAFF.
