Sadly, a man has died after a drowning incident at Carlton Beach in Southern Tasmania this afternoon.
Police and other emergency services, including Surf Life Saving Tasmania, were called to the scene about 1pm, after reports a group of swimmers, including children, were experiencing difficulty in strong currents.
The five were retrieved from the water, and paramedics performed CPR on the man before he was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.
The other swimmers did not require medical treatment.
Our thoughts are with the man's loved ones. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
