A Braybrook man has been charged with firearm and drug trafficking offences as part of an operation designed to disrupt and deter illicit firearms use.
Detectives from the Maribyrnong Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) with support from the Hobsons Bay and Wyndham CIUs, the Westgate Divisional Response Unit and VIPER Taskforce conducted a series of Firearm Prohibition Order compliance searches on Wednesday 15 February.
16 searches were conducted across Altona Meadows, Braybrook, Hoppers Crossing, Kingsville, Newport, Maribyrnong, Seddon, Truganina, Point Cook, Werribee and Williamstown on those with active Firearm Prohibition Orders.
Detectives seized a range of items during the searches, including:
- Two sawn off shotguns
- Quantities of drugs including methyl amphetamine, cocaine and cannabis plants
- Stolen registrations plates
The 32-year-old Braybrook man has been charged with possessing a firearm in contravention of a Firearm Prohibition Order, prohibited person possess a firearm, possess ammunition without a licence, trafficking methyl amphetamine, drug possession, handle stolen goods and deal in the proceeds of crime.
He was directly presented to the Sunshine Magistrates' Court yesterday. He has been bailed to appear at court on 10 May.
Detectives from the western suburbs will continue to investigate and disrupt offenders to prevent serious and violent crime and ensure those in the community are complying with Firearm Prohibition Orders.
