Northern Territory Police have seized more than eight kilos of cannabis from a vehicle stopped in Alice Springs at the weekend.
Officers stopped the vehicle after it was seen being driven erratically in Connellan on Saturday afternoon.
Drug Detection Dog 'Yakka' conducted a search of the vehicle and responded to two spare tyres inside the vehicle, which on further examination contained 18 bags of cannabis. Police will allege it was destined for remote Aboriginal communities where it is expected the illicit drug would yield up to $800,000.
Two men, aged 31 and 27 and an 18-year-old woman were arrested and charged with supplying a commercial quantity of a schedule 2 dangerous drug and have been remanded in custody to appear before the Alice Springs Local Court today.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Leith Phillips said "This seizure displays the value of drug detector dogs in aiding police to locate illicit substances, even when people go to great lengths to hide substances.
"This is a great result in reducing drug related harm to people living in remote communities in the Northern Territory."
