Duo Charged in $20M Meth Bust Disguised as Tea

Organised Crime Squad detectives have charged two men with the supply of $20 million worth of methylamphetamine under Strike Force Canovellas.

Strike Force Canovellas was established by State Crime Command's Organised Crime Squad to investigate the supply of methylamphetamine across Sydney.

About 10.50am yesterday (Thursday 2 January 2025), strike force detectives executed a search warrant in Greenacre where police allegedly located two men weighing packages of methylamphetamine disguised as tea.

The men – aged 49 and 56 – were arrested at the scene and taken to Bankstown Police Station, where they were charged with supply prohibited drug >= large commercial quantity and participate in a criminal group.

Both men were refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court today (Friday 3 January 2025).

Organised Crime Squad detectives are working with the Drug Enforcement Administration and Thai authorities to establish the origin of the prohibited drugs.
