Hume City Council Mayor Cr. Jarrod Bell has welcomed the announcement of a Federal funding commitment for a major sporting upgrade at Kalkallo's Dwyer Street Reserve.
Cr. Bell met with Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, The Honourable Bridget McKenzie, and Liberal candidate for McEwen Jason McClintock to welcome the election commitment.
The $2.5 million commitment from the Liberal National Party will support Council's $5.1 million investment in this pivotal infrastructure for Hume's growing north, specifically Kalkallo where the population is expected to double over the next 20 years.
The project will deliver a community pavilion catering to soccer and cricket, both of which have seen increased demand across Hume.
With a focus on modern equipment, amenities and inclusive spaces, the development aims to provide a place of belonging and connection for Hume City's diverse communities.
Featuring a community room and kitchen, four sets of female-friendly change rooms and trainer rooms, two female-friendly umpire's rooms, storerooms, office space and public amenities, it will serve as an inclusive connection point for the developing area.
The design is in line with Hume City Council's Gender Equality Action Plan that commits to offering safe spaces for women and girls in local sport, ensuring they feel welcome and valued.
This funding commitment highlights the importance of partnerships between different levels of government in delivering the infrastructure that our growing communities so desperately need.
We thank Jason McClintock, Senator McKenzie and the Liberal/Nationals Coalition for their support in bettering our city.
We now call upon the Labor Government to match this election commitment to ensure that no matter who forms Government, this project will be delivered in partnership with the Federal Government.
