Given the persistent challenges facing food security in the Arab region, particularly weak logistics infrastructure, limited digital skills, and varying levels of readiness across countries, ESCWA has issued an executive brief titled "Guidelines on the role of e-commerce in agricultural to reduce food loss in the Arab Region".
The guidelines provide a practical framework to enhance the role of e-commerce in modernizing the agricultural sector and reducing food loss, notably through improved supply chain efficiency and expanded access to markets.
Drawing on an analysis of 24 digital platforms worldwide, the brief identifies key success factors and assesses the readiness of Arab countries to adopt e-commerce in agriculture. It also offers practical recommendations for farmers, entrepreneurs, digital platforms, supporting organizations and policymakers to promote more inclusive and sustainable adoption.
