The e-scooter trial currently underway in Forster-Tuncurry will be extended until 30 June 2025, or until the regulatory provisions on e-scooters from the NSW Government become known.
MidCoast Councillors supported the extension of the trial following a successful 12 months.
Over 60,000 trips on hireable e-scooters travelling a distance of over 126,000 kilometres have been taken from December 2024 to the end of October 2025.
There are over 100 rides taken most days, with numbers doubling and tripling during holiday periods.
"Hireable e-scooters in the area have given more options for people to travel without using a car and they have been popular with tourists and visitors," said Director of Infrastructure and Engineering Services, Rob Scott.
The hireable e-scooters are supported by local businesses in Tuncurry and Forster, making it easier for customers to travel around the area.
The biggest concern among locals is the discarded hire e-scooters, reducing visual amenity and posing a trip hazard if left over footpaths.
"We encourage anyone who sees an e-scooter that has been incorrectly parked to report the issue to Beam, who will send staff to fix the issue," said Mr Scott.
To report a discarded e-scooter to Beam, scan the QR code on the e-scooter or visit https://www.ridebeam.com/help.
Personal e-scooters remain illegal on NSW roads and road-related areas, including footpaths, shared paths and bicycle lanes. You can only use these on private property.
