More than 40,000 trips have been recorded in the first six months of the e-scooter trial being held in Forster-Tuncurry.
Transport for NSW is considering the logistics behind the use of e-scooters in NSW and gazetted a 12-month trial period to be conducted in Forster-Tuncurry and a number of other locations in NSW.
Following a six month review MidCoast Council's Director of Infrastructure and Engineering Services, Rob Scott, said the Forster-Tuncurry trial has seen "relatively high usage."
"Beam commenced the trial on Friday, 8 December with 150 scooters and the Forster-Tuncurry trial has provided a strong benchmark," he said.
"There have been 43,854 total trips with a distance of 91,990 km travelled."
Mr Scott said that while the trial has produced good results of utilisation so far, there was a continued need to focus on improving safety compliance and reducing discarded scooters along footpaths.
"And whilst the initial usage during the trial has been positive, we need to see results over the full year period," he explained.
"It is also important to note that MidCoast Council does not benefit financially from the trial. Ultimately the community benefits from an alternative mode of transport with a smaller environmental footprint."
The local police have also reported that the trial has not caused any significant issues which is also a positive indicator of its impact on the community.
