New electronic waste bins are located at the Port of Sale and Yarram Hub for convenient disposal of household electronics.
Small household e-waste items such as phones, keyboards, laptops, electronic cords, cameras, batteries, tablets and similar objects are permitted.
All Wellington Shire Council household bins and landfill sites are no longer allowed to contain e-waste as per the state-wide ban which took effect 1 July.
Instead e-waste can be dropped off at for free at the Port of Sale and Yarram Hub. Larger items will need to be disposed of at transfer stations in Kilmany, Maffra, Stratford, Yarram, Loch Sport, Heyfield, Seaspray and Dargo during normal operating hours.
Council reminds residents that e-waste is any item that needs a battery, power cord or a plug, which is no longer wanted or working. These items contain potentially hazardous substances and need to be separated from general waste.
Wellington Shire Council Mayor Alan Hall said the ban will reduce impact from landfill sites through recycling to reduce our impact on the environment.
"We all need to take responsibility for our own waste, whether that's general household waste or e-waste," he said.
"For the ban to work, we need to people to know about it and understand it.
"Please help us to ensure there is no contamination, by thinking carefully about how you will dispose of your unwanted electronics."
