Earthworks Academy Delivering For Industry 19 February

Tasmanian Government

Work is underway to deliver the Tasmanian Government's first live Earthworks Academy, a purpose-built training site to help more Tasmanians become job-ready in the civil construction industry.

The grant deed has now been signed for the $4.3 million Academy, including $1.8 million to establish the site's infrastructure and $2.5 million for equipment.

Minister for Skills and Training, Felix Ellis, said our civil construction workers are building Tasmania's future.

"Just less than a year ago, the Premier and I were on this site announcing plans to ensure our next generation of tradies have the skills they need to keep Tasmania moving forward," Minister Ellis said.

"Today, we are taking another step in making this academy a reality and future-proofing the civil construction industry.

"The Earthworks Academy will ensure we're delivering the thousands of workers we need help us deliver our $27 billion infrastructure pipeline of works.

"The Academy will not only support the multiple road upgrade projects across the state, but will play a critical role in delivering the workforce we need to get more homes built for Tasmanians.

"The Academy will be key in helping to address skill shortages in the sector, including for earthmoving plant operators, bulldozer operators, excavator operators, grader operators, loader and road roller operators, and truck drivers.

"Through our Government's 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we're training up a job-ready generation of Tasmanians with the skills they need to succeed."

The Academy, which will be run by the Civil Contractors Federation Tasmania, is anticipated to have its first students begin training in early 2026.
