ECHR President Keynotes Liverpool Summer School

The University of Liverpool's School of Law and Social Justice successfully hosted its second Summer School on the Law of the Council of Europe, culminating in a keynote speech by Judge Marko Bošnjak, President of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

The two-week event, which concluded on Friday 19 July, featured insights from distinguished human rights experts from across Europe.

Judge Bošnjak's keynote address, titled 'The Future of Human Rights Protection in Europe', highlighted the numerous political, social, technological and legal factors shaping the future of human rights protections on the continent. Judge Bošnjak discussed the challenges facing the Court, particularly surrounding migration and climate change. Judge Bošnjak engaged in an in-depth discussion with the audience as he answered their questions.

Professor Michele Nicoletti, Former President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, then discussed the evolution and development of the Council, and its contribution to modern European identity.

Throughout the Summer School, participants engaged in a series of sessions led by human rights experts, discussing contemporary challenges and developments in the field. The programme aimed to deepen understanding and foster dialogue on critical issues affecting human rights in Europe.
