At last night's Council meeting a planning permit was approved which will see the development of a medical centre, childcare centre and recreation facilities including a gym, pool for a swim school on the corner of Mount Terrick Road and Murray Valley Highway, Echuca.
Mayor Rob Amos said that the additional community infrastructure is needed in line with residential developments nearby in Echuca West which will see approximately 5,000 new homes being built.
"As well as many new homes on the horizon, we also have new schools and retail operators in this area already, so it's important that we also assist with the development of ancillary infrastructure and community facilities," said Mayor Amos.
The application underwent statutory advertising, and seven objections were received which were considered in the assessment of the application and largely addressed by the addition of conditions to the permit.
"There is a critical housing shortage all over Australia at the moment, so it will be beneficial for Echuca to see so many new homes built, but with additional housing comes the need for additional community services such as doctors and childcare so we are happy to approve this development on that basis."
