Bega Valley Shire Mayor, Russell Fitzpatrick, Member for Eden-Monaro, Kristy McBain and Member for Bega, Dr Michael Holland officially opened the upgraded Barclay Street recreation precinct on Monday 2 December.
The event in Eden celebrated the delivery of the greatly improved facilities that will benefit the whole community now and for generations to come.
Mayor Fitzpatrick expressed gratitude for the support received throughout the major project.
"Without significant funding from the NSW and Australian Governments, we wouldn't see major projects like this come to fruition," Mayor Fitzpatrick said.
"Council sincerely thanks both governments for their support.
"We also extend our thanks to the community clubs and groups for their valuable contributions throughout the consultation process.
"Council remains committed to providing safe and accessible recreational infrastructure for the community, fostering many health benefits and community wellbeing.
"Our recreational infrastructure also plays an important role in attracting new residents to the area, especially young families and plays an important part in tourism by adding to people experiences when they visit the shire.
"The precinct on Barclay Street is now an exciting multi-functional recreational space, featuring new sporting amenities, an all-inclusive play space, a state-of-the-art skatepark, enhanced pathways and parkland facilities, and new site access and carpark.
"While the new precinct has been accessible and enjoyed by the community since the completion of each stage of the project, this event allowed us to formally thank everyone involved in delivering the project for the Eden community.
Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said the NSW Government has invested $300,000 towards the project through the Everyone Can Play program.
"Eden's Recreational Precinct is a fully inclusive place that everyone in the community can enjoy no matter their ability or age," Mr Scully said.
"I am pleased to see that new inclusive playspace has plenty of opportunities for people to connect and have fun, with some great new features."
