UConn John Dempsey Hospital Earns Another Consecutive Top 'A' Rating for its Patient Safety Excellence from The Leapfrog Group
Eight straight A's have been awarded to UConn's teaching hospital, UConn John Dempsey Hospital at UConn Health.
This eighth consecutive "A" Hospital Safety Grade is awarded to John Dempsey Hospital for Fall 2024 from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog. Since 2021 UConn Health has been honored with straight A's in patient safety.
Twice annually in the fall and spring Leapfrog assigns either an "A," "B," "C," "D" or "F" grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 performance metrics measuring errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.
"As an academic medical center, patient safety is always our number one focus as reflected in our 8 consecutive top A-ratings for patient safety by the national Leapfrog watchdog group," says UConn Health CEO Dr. Andy Agwunobi. "I am so proud of the excellent work of our hospital leadership and its entire clinical care workforce year after year making this repeat highest national patient safety recognition A-rating possible."
"Achieving an 'A' Hospital Safety Grade is a significant accomplishment," said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. "It reflects enormous dedication to your patients and their families, and your whole community should be proud. I extend my congratulations to UConn John Dempsey Hospital, its leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for their tireless efforts to put patients first."
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
"Congratulations to everyone at UConn John Dempsey Hospital. Leapfrog's ongoing recognition of UConn Health's top patient safety is a true testament to the patient-centered care our medical teams provide every day," says Dr. Scott Allen, chief medical officer and patient safety officer at UConn Health. "At Connecticut's award-winning public academic medical center, patients will always receive the most innovative, highest-quality, and safest care possible."
