A historic park in Maryborough is getting a fresh upgrade with new lights, irrigation and fencing with another Palaszczuk Government election commitment delivered.
Member for Maryborough Bruce Saunders said that thanks to the Palaszczuk Government's investment of $500,000, work was well underway to upgrade facilities.
"At the last election I committed to upgrading facilities at Eskdale Park, we've got a great local talent here in Maryborough but a lack of facilities was holding our teams back," he said.
"The Fraser Coast community is proud and passionate about their footy and these upgrades will support the sport at the grassroots levels."
Mr Saunders said the improvements were a big win for local rugby league players.
"More than 100 years ago this park took centre stage as host to some of the first competition rugby league games in Queensland," he said.
"With these new upgrades, Eskdale Park will be transformed to support the current and next generations of rugby league players on the Fraser Coast.
"It will also allow our region to continue to attract games like the Intrust Super Cup, which is great news for our local community.
"With about 40 per cent of works already complete, we look forward to enjoying all the improved facilities at Eskdale Park by the end of the year."
Minister for Sport Mick de Brenni said keeping Queenslanders healthy was a top priority of the Palaszczuk Government.
"We're making sure we have great facilities in the regions, like those in Maryborough, so that the next generation of Queensland greats can be cultivated right here," he said.
"Our investment in sport is targeted where it matters the most and where local members like Bruce have made it clear that it will make a ready difference in the community."
The Palaszczuk Government is supporting over 130 jobs by investing $40 million over the next three years to upgrade community infrastructure projects across the state.
The $500,000 upgrades at Eskdale Park delivers on a 2017 Queensland Government election commitment to the Eskdale Park Trust.
