The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) has released the response to submissions for a draft discussion paper on the Eligible Mining Activity Framework.
The Eligible Mining Activity framework is a new form of automated authorisation for certain minimal ground disturbance activities, known as eligible mining activities (EMAs).
The draft discussion paper was available for stakeholder feedback for 12 weeks, outlining the proposed criteria for what constitutes an eligible activity and the standard conditions that will apply to these activities.
DMIRS Resource and Environmental Compliance Division's Executive Director Karen Caple said stakeholder consultation on the EMA framework was key to mitigating any environmental risk when these mining regulations come into effect.
"It is important there is a clear understanding of what constitutes an EMA, so I would like to thank all stakeholders who took the time to provide their input.
"We will continue to work closely with our stakeholders to ensure approval times can be fast-tracked without compromising Western Australia's high standard of environmental regulation."
The submissions will inform draft amendments to the Mining Regulations, which will undergo further consultation.
