Ella's Embarrassing Own Goal

Guy Barnett, Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing

Ella Haddad's embarrassing blunder in Question Time today has proved Labor has absolutely no idea what is happening in Tasmania's health system.

Ms Haddad bizarrely asked whether the plan for the Mental Health Precinct at the Launceston General Hospital was being moved from the Anne O'Byrne site – despite the Premier and former Health Minister already announcing this in February 2023.

Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Guy Barnett, said this latest attempt to mislead Tasmanians has backfired badly.

"This is an embarrassing own goal for the Shadow Health Minister and also for the Labor Member for Bass, Janie Finlay, who both had no idea the new $80 million Mental Health Precinct at the LGH would be built at 52 Frankland Street," the Minister said.

"This has been in the public domain since February last year, which proves Labor are either incompetent, or completely ignorant when it comes to health.

"Unfortunately, this is now a pattern of behaviour for Labor, who have had a horror 24 hours in making untrue claims around the LGH and needs to be called out.

"I would urge Labor to spend less time misleading Tasmanians and more time getting the basics right.

"Our Government is completely committed to delivering our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future – and Labor's relentless negativity will not get in our way."
