Impacts to Council services
Due to the current fire situation in the Flowerdale area, the following Council services are impacted:
- Mobile Library: We have cancelled the mobile library service to the Highlands community today. The next planned visit is 8 March.
- Yea Saleyards: The facility is presently being used as a CFA staging area. No transit use until further notice.
- Yea Maternal and Child Health: Services in Yea have been rescheduled and clients have been contacted directly.
- Operations: Council's operations crews are currently attending the fire. As a result, there will be reduced service delivery for the rest of the week. Programmed road maintenance works will be delayed across the municipality whilst crews are redirected to this fire.
- Waste and recycling collection: There will be impacts to services in impacted areas. Once the fire threat reduces, Council will arrange for bins to be picked up as soon as possible.
Other community services:
- Flowerdale Kindergarten: Closed today. Parents have been contacted directly by the Kindergarten.
- Flowerdale Primary School: Learning from home today. No staff and students are on site. All parents should have been contacted directly by the School.
Relief Centre operating at the Yea Recreation Reserve
To assist people who are affected by the grass fire in Flowerdale, Council has opened an Emergency Relief Centre in Yea, at the Yea Recreation Reserve club rooms from 11.00 am today.
The Recreation Reserve is located at 20 Snodgrass Street and the club rooms are in the red brick building to the right of the grandstand and entry is from the road/car park side.
The Relief Centre will operate for the remainder of the day and will remain open based on community needs. We will provide further updates as the day progresses.
Council staff are available on site to provide support and essential needs to individuals and families affected by this event. Bottled water will be available. We can also assist people with pets and animals who arrive at the Relief Centre.
