Emergency Beacons Installed On Foreshore: Bayside

Surf Life Saving NSW is installing two Emergency Response Beacons (ERB) along Lady Robinson Beach that will allow beach users to report emergencies on the beach or in the water.

Botany Bay foreshore beaches are not patrolled by life savers and in the event of an emergency, the beacons will provide direct communication with a Surf Life Saving NSW Emergency Response Operator.

Each solar powered ERB is equipped with a call button, microphone, speaker and two cameras.

When activated, the cameras will allow the Emergency Response Officer to view the situation while a response is being co-ordinated.

Once the beacons are installed Surf Life Saving NSW's State Operations Centre will be available 24/7 to respond to any emergency on the foreshore.

Mayor Edward McDougall said

"These easy-to-operate Emergency Response Beacons will help assist in lifesaving activities add a level of safety for the many visitors to our foreshore," Mayor Edward McDougall said.

"I am pleased Council has been able to work with Surf Life Saving NSW and make use of their technology that helps emergency services respond incidents at unpatrolled locations."
