Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service responded to a vehicle fire at an underground carpark earlier today, resulting in a large-scale response that shut down nearby roads.
Just before 11am, an automatic fire alarm was activated, along with a member of the public contacted Triple Zero advising the Fire and Rescue Service of smoke coming from a Toyota Land Cruiser on the basement level of the carpark.
Darwin Fire Crews nearby responded before being supported from Marrara Fire Station crews who attended for assistance.
Fourteen firefighters, with the assistance of fire recruits undertaking training, extinguished the vehicle fire before searching the area. A smoke extraction system was activated, and the scene had to be rehabilitated.
The exact cause of the fire is still being determined however, it is not believed to be suspicious.
Thankfully there were no reported injuries, and the carpark was reopened to the public later in the afternoon.
