Emergency Grants for Derwent Valley, Central Highlands

Tasmanian Government

The Tasmanian Government has activated Emergency Assistance Grants for residents in the Derwent Valley who have been impacted from flooding waters or who have become isolated due to associated road closures.

These areas include Meadowbank, Glenora, Bushy Park, Gretna, Macquarie Plains, Maydena, Strathgordon and surrounds.

Emergency Assistance Grants are now available to assist impacted residents in affected areas to obtain essential and appropriate shelter; food; transport and personal items.

Grant funds available are:

* $250 per adult (over 18 years);

* $125 per dependent child (under 18 years); and

* a maximum of $1,000 for any one family.

Premier Rockliff said the Government is standing ready to provide assistance to those impacted.

"Today, we have activated emergency assistance grants for residents in the Derwent Valley and are isolated due to flooding waters. We are also working with local councils to understand the impact and provide them the assistance they need to help their communities to recover," the Premier said.

"We are preparing to activate further financial support arrangements if they are needed, which includes support for impacted councils and communities.

"I have been in touch with the Prime Minister, and I know that the Federal Government is also standing ready to support those who need it.

"We will continue to work closely with all levels of government to ensure that support is delivered where and when it's needed as we move towards recovery efforts."

Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Felix Ellis said it was important that Tasmanians followed advice of emergency services.

"Thank you to our community for responding so well during this time, for their cooperation, common sense and understanding," Minister Ellis said.

"It's so important that Tasmanians continue this good work and take advice from emergency services as appropriate.
