Employee Charged Over Theft At Post Office In Parkes

A post office employee has been charged after allegedly stealing over $6,000 worth of mobile phones from a mail consignment in Parkes.

About 9am on Tuesday (17 September 2024), an employee allegedly stole a consignment from the post office before placing it in his delivery van.

Australia Post were alerted that one of the mobile phones – that were due for release on Friday 20 September 2024 – was activated.

Officers attached to Central West Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.

Following inquires, about 6.40am today (Thursday 19 September 2024), police conducted a vehicle stop on Edward Street, Forbes, and arrested a 34-year-old man.

During a search of the van, police located and seized one of the mobile phones.

A short time later officers attended a home on Federation Boulevard, Forbes, and seized the other three mobile phones.

The man was taken to Parkes Police Station and charged with steal property as clerk/servant over $5,000 and under $15,000.

He was given conditional bail to appear at Parkes Local Court on Thursday 17 October 2024.
