'Entry Statement' Sought For Community And Arts Hub

Sunshine Coast Council

Sunshine Coast Council is commissioning two significant public artworks and inviting established artists from across the nation to express their interest by June 28, 2024.

The sculptural public art pieces will form an impressive entry statement for the region's new state-of-the-art district library and community space, Library+ at Caloundra, reflecting the iconic character of the region.

Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli said the new facility, due to open mid-2025, would be a key cultural offering for the region.

"The contemporary Library+ building and community space will form part of a vibrant new community hub visioned for the Sunshine Coast, where arts, community and creativity can come alive," Mayor Natoli said.

"The building is designed with sustainability at its core and will provide a place for residents and visitors to connect, learn, and embrace new technologies and innovations.

"This is the largest public art commission ever undertaken by this Council and will set the benchmark for creative inclusions in our built environment.

"The artworks should contribute to the identity of Caloundra by engaging, telling stories, sparking conversations, and creating a sense of place, now and into the future.

"We all have a role to play in shaping culture and creating thriving communities in our Sunshine Coast Biosphere, so it's fitting we pass the baton to artists, who can reflect our unique regional identity in such engaging and beautiful ways."
