U.S. Special Envoy for Yemen Tim Lenderking is traveling to Manama, Bahrain; Doha, Qatar; and Djibouti, Djibouti December 5-12. He will meet with partners to coordinate efforts to counter the Houthis' reckless attacks on Red Sea shipping. International patience has eroded in the face of the continued provocations of this non-state armed group.
During this trip, Special Envoy Lenderking will also confer with officials and civil society representatives on the urgency to facilitate humanitarian goods and services to all Yemenis, and on practical measures to create the conditions for intra-Yemeni political dialogue. He will also hold discussions on our deep concern regarding the Houthis' continued, cruel detention of innocent mariners and innocent Yemenis employed by international organizations and diplomatic missions, as well as on the impacts of the Houthi detentions and interference in the vital delivery of humanitarian assistance to the Yemeni people.
Throughout the visit, the Special Envoy will meet with government officials and counterparts, UN and international humanitarian aid workers, multilateral organizations, U.S. servicemembers, and members of the Yemeni diaspora community. Special Envoy Lenderking will also attend the Manama Dialogue in Bahrain, participate in the Doha Forum in Qatar, and hold meetings with partners and officials from the UN Verification and Inspection Mechanism for Yemen (UNVIM) in Djibouti.
