Campaspe Shire Council is launching an expression of interest (EOI) process for individuals to join its newly formed Diversity and Inclusion Reference Group. This initiative is a key component of Council's Access and Inclusion Strategy 2020-2026, which underscores Council's unwavering commitment to fostering equal participation and inclusion for all community members.
The Diversity and Inclusion Reference Group will play a pivotal role in the Council on matters related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The Access and Inclusion Strategy identifies nine 'communities of priority' that will be the focus of future actions. The communities of priority are: people with disability; culturally and linguistically diverse communities; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; LGBTQIA+ individuals; older adults (65+); people with a mental illness; socially disadvantaged people; youth (12-25 years); and females. By concentrating on these priority groups, Council aims to address specific barriers and promote a more inclusive environment for all residents.
Campaspe Shire Mayor Cr Daniel Mackrell said the Diversity and Inclusion Reference Group would provide insights and recommendations to ensure that Council's policies, programs, and services were inclusive and accessible for everyone.
"Campaspe Shire Council is committed to access and inclusiveness for all members of our community.
"The formation of this reference group acknowledges there are a range of people and groups who experience barriers to equal participation, and whose input is invaluable in helping Council to eliminate these barriers.
"Promoting inclusivity helps build stronger, more cohesive communities. When everyone feels valued and included, it fosters a sense of belonging and mutual respect – something we can all benefit from," Cr Mackrell said.
Council encourages individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences to submit their EOI and contribute to this important initiative. Council is particularly interested in hearing from those who have a passion for advocating for diversity and inclusion and who can bring unique perspectives to the reference group.
