Following the recent announcement that Hargreaves Mall will soon receive new landscaping, the City of Greater Bendigo is now seeking expressions of interest from artists to create new artworks that will be reproduced onto vinyl wraps to cover the screens in the Mall and various utility boxes.
The wraps will cover the front and back of the two large lantern screen structures, noting the front of one structure will only require a border around the existing LED TV screen. There are also five utility boxes to be covered.
Strategic Project Manager Wonona Fuzzard said the artworks needed to be timeless.
"In line with our recently adopted Hargreaves Mall Action Plan, the City's focus is to improve the overall look and feel of Hargreaves Mall and create a public space that is colourful, safe and inviting for everyone," Ms Fuzzard said.
"The vinyl wraps will complement the new seating and landscape works that were announced last week.
"It is important that the final artworks present a clear narrative and connection to each other, and work within a colour palette of blues and purples.
"An individual artist may submit ideas for consideration or a few artists may come together and develop a suite of work. Anyone interested in this opportunity is also encouraged to visit the Mall and see the structures in person, to help visualise the scale."
Expressions of interest are now open and close on Friday May 17. All short-listed artist/s will be paid a fee of $500 to develop their concept designs for review by a selection panel.
The selected artist/s will be paid a total fee of $4,000.
