EPA Victoria is inspecting dairy farms across the South-West Region to make sure water pollution controls are in place and working. While we are in the area to inspect businesses, we will also be hosting community drop-in sessions in Timboon, Peterborough and Camperdown.
Businesses have a responsibility to manage water pollution emissions, so far as reasonably practicable, to comply with the conditions within their operating licenses.
The general environmental duty (GED) requires anyone contributing to water pollution to understand their risks, implement controls and regularly review performance of those controls so far as reasonably practicable.
EPA officers will be looking for compliance with the GED, effluent pond management, waste disposal and more.
If you're a business owner, resident, or passionate about environmental protection, please come and join a drop-in session. You can ask about dairy farm inspections, gain insights into the various environmental preservation efforts conducted by EPA, or drop by for a friendly conversation with EPA staff.
EPA are keen to learn what communities are concerned about in their local area, answer questions and let you know about some of the diverse work officers carry out daily to protect our environment.
