EPA officers are still responding to reports of asbestos contamination, inspecting sites and sending suspected asbestos-containing material for laboratory testing, and working with local government on having affected sites remediated.
EPA visited Scotchmans Creek Reserve in Mount Waverley yesterday, Monday 15 April, following a report from a member of the public. Officers did not find any potential asbestos contamination.
EPA attended Minihans Reserve in Cranbourne today, Tuesday 16 April. The visit followed a report from City of Casey that small pieces of bonded asbestos-containing material were discovered in a mulched garden bed at the reserve.
The source of contamination is under investigation, but EPA believes it is not due to contamination in the mulch.
City of Casey is expecting to complete clean-up of the site today, Tuesday 16 April.
Hobson's Bay City Council is cleaning up sites where asbestos-containing material has been confirmed. Public access will be restricted at each site until cleared.

No new sites have been reported today.
Tests are still pending on eight (8) sites in Hobsons Bay City Council area to confirm whether or not samples collected are asbestos-containing material.
