The effort to create materials with specific, customized properties is a key driver of scientific and technological progress, playing an essential role in solving global challenges, such as the development of new types of fuels.
Peter Bøggild and Mads Brandbyge's project 'METRIQS' (Metamaterial Interfaces for Quantum Electronics) aims to create a so-called metamaterial where the interface between the materials itself plays a crucial and active role in the properties and functionality of the material. In METRIQS, two-dimensional materials and complex oxides are combined into layered structures, where the researchers expect they will generate robust quantum properties at higher temperatures than previously possible.
