Erratic driver arrested after collision in Merrijig

A driver has been arrested after allegedly colliding with a police vehicle in Merrijig last night.

Officers were called to Mount Buller Road after reports a car was driving erratically and swerving across lanes about 9.05pm on Thursday, 6 January.

Police responded and detected a white Toyota Landcruiser utility travelling at speed towards them.

The four-wheel-drive veered into the centre of the road before allegedly colliding with the side of the police vehicle.

The driver allegedly failed to stop and continued on at speed.

Two officers were assessed by paramedics at the scene but luckily sustained no physical injuries during the collision.

The police vehicle was towed from the scene with extensive damage.

Shortly after, police were called to an address in Merton after reports a damaged vehicle was parked in a driveway.

Officers attended and arrested a 31-year-old Merton man nearby.

He was taken to hospital for observation.

Anyone who witnessed the white Toyota utility driving erratically in the lead up to the collision is asked to come forward to investigators.
