As I approach the end of my role as European Commissioner for Agriculture, I hereby present the following paper to account for the work undertaken by my services and I over the course of the past mandate.
Firstly, I have compiled a report containing a selection of the most important activities and achievements of the past five years.
Secondly, I have prepared a short assessment of the present state of EU agriculture, outlining some of the most positive developments, as well as significant trends and threats that need to be addressed.
Finally, I present my proposals for the EU's agricultural policy after 2027, based on the experiences gained and reflections formulated during my mandate.
I hope that this paper (which can be found in the "related documents" section at the bottom of this page) will make a positive contribution to ongoing debates on the future direction of agriculture in the European Union.
Serving as European Commissioner for Agriculture has been a great honour. I thank my colleagues and co-legislators for their good cooperation and support over the past five years. Most of all I thank the farmers of the European Union, for their tireless and inspirational work to ensure food security for all of our citizens.
