On 2 March 2025, animated feature film "Flow", directed by Gints Zilbalodis, won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature at the 97th Academy Awards.

A co-production between Latvia, France and Belgium, supported by Eurimages, "Flow" is a poetic and immersive cinematic journey that showcases the power of animation as a storytelling medium.

Its win marks a historic first for Latvian cinema and is the first Oscar in the animation category for Eurimages.

"Flow" premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024 and since then has received multiple awards, including Best Animated Feature at the Golden Globe Awards and the French César for Best Animated Film.

The journey of "Flow" from an independently-produced film to an Academy Award-winning feature underscores the importance of organisations like Eurimages in supporting unique and culturally rich storytelling. By providing financial backing and promoting international co-productions through Eurimages, the Council of Europe plays an essential role in bringing European stories to global audiences and enriching the diversity of the cinematic landscape.
