Europe Hub Hosts Inaugural Stockholm Talks in Netherlands

Security. Power. Transition. Fracture - and fear. What do these concepts mean, if we relate them to the current situation we face in Europe?

On 13 November, the Europe Hub at Leiden University, together with the Stockholm Academic Forum, the Swedish Embassy to the Netherlands and the European Commission Representation to the Netherlands, organized the first edition of the Stockholm Explorative Talks outside of Sweden. The even took place at the Europe House in The Hague.

The Stockholm Explorative Talks follows an original format. Six scientists from different disciplines (two from Sweden, Mark Basin and Ebba Theorell, and four from Leiden University, Wilco van Dijk, Sarah Giest, Gianclaudio Malgieri and Nienke de Graeff) took the stage for an unrehearsed conversation on this edition's theme: "Crossroards - What we meet, what we dream and what we fear". They addressed this topic from the perspective of their own academic disciplines, offering to the audience a spontaneous and comprehensive vision on how to best tackle the challenges that Europe faces in the near future.

The conversation was followed by a panel discussion on the political and institutional perspectives on the EU's future. The panel gathered Klasja van de Ridder (Head of Representation of the European Commission in the Netherlands), Johannes Oljelund (Ambassador of Sweden to the Netherlands) and René Cuperus (Senior Fellow at the Clingendael Institute), moderated by Vincent Delhomme (Assistant Professor at Leiden University and coordinator of the Europe Hub).
